Why Sonja?
The name Sonja has a special place in the history of AnjaHoeve. Our farmhouse, known as AnjaHoeve since 1968, was called “Hoeve Sonja” in the early 1900s.
Pieter Zijm, who owned the farm from 1917 to 1937, originally gave it this name. Pieter had a dog called Sonja. Because he suffered from rheumatism, he took Sonja to bed with him, hoping that the dog would somehow take over his rheumatism and relieve him of it.
When Annie and Jan Brüggeman converted the farmhouse into holiday accommodation in 1968, they changed its name to AnjaHoeve.
In 2014, we built a small detached bungalow on the grounds of AnjaHoeve, designed in the style of a traditional Texel farmhouse. Authentic in appearance and in keeping with its surroundings, but with all the modern comforts you would expect from a holiday home today.
Given the history of our farm, there could really only be one name for it: Sonja.
